9:31am: Conviction!!

"Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all of the Jews and have one global government. You got to have an enemy to fight. And when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you, and you seize power. That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N.'s enemy: global warming. Then you get the scientists -- eugenics. You get the scientists -- global warming. Then you have to discredit the scientists who say, 'That's not right.' And you must silence all dissenting voices. That's what Hitler did."
I can't believe he seriously compared Gore to Hitler. I definitely can't say I agree with Gore but this false analogy to the Nazi party is what I hate worst about politicians. Conservatives aren't alone though. Really smart dishonest people are the scariest and only make every situation worse.
Why can't politicians just lay the facts out there? What are they afraid of? Obviously they have so little faith in their own agenda and values that they have to veneer it with non sequiters that are designed to purposefully spread misinformation. He's actually being careful about what he says but he's being fucking dishonest about HOW he says it. "I'm not comparing the two...they just used similar tactics." Right...
Speaking of misinformation, my pal Chris brought up a good point about debating politics with people who you disagree with politically...
The source of the problem is that we both have news sources we get info from that we trust so we're being told what we want to hear. This is obviously why propaganda works so well. One source, one point of view. Sure, most of us take the time to watch media that disagrees with our views but when we do we already have out opinion set in stone so all that we consider when watching/listening is how crazy that person it for reporting that.
We should be considering the facts from all of these sources, even the ones that disagree with us, and weighing all the possible facts to come to a more educated conclusion. Instead we listen to media with opposing view points merely to find holes in their reporting to tear it down. I'm guilty of this myself.
Chris: "Watch CNN and you believe nothing good ever happens in Iraq. ever. Watch Fox and you believe the soldiers are doing nothing but building schools and delivering meals. The truth is obviously in the middle but to believe the middle is to lack conviction. To lack conviction is to be weak. To be weak is to be unAmerican.
That says a lot about current events.
